Börsenblatt

Digital transformation for the book industry

The Börsenblatt is the book industry's largest trade journal and provides a weekly update of news on the book market. The target group includes mostly employees in the book trade, publishing houses and libraries, as well as authors, journalists and other creative professionals.

The digital industry portal boersenblatt.net expands the print editions and drives the digital transformation of the publication, which was founded in 1834. The website does not only provide information on books, bestseller lists and digital trends, but has also developed into a well-known discussion platform for the book industry.

Relaunch for modern look and feel

For MVB Marketing- und Verlagsservice des Buchhandels GmbH we carried out a complete relaunch of the site from SixCMS to the established CMS solution Thunder, based on Drupal 8. In this context we also migrated the existing extensive content to the new Drupal site.

The digital version of Börsenblatt is a comprehensive content portal optimized for target groups. Due to the modern editorial interface and connection of information interfaces, articles can be created quickly and flexibly with different components and designed graphically. The event calendar offers various possibilities to display and promote events in the book industry. In addition, the interface to plenigo uses the established paid content platform to display user-specific content and to map the ordering process for subscriptions.

I am very pleased about the opportunity to help shape the digitalization of one of the oldest magazines in Germany with the Börsenblatt.

Our primary goal was to optimize processes through automation. The technical connection of the various interfaces and migrating 15 years of content were particularly exciting and a real highlight.

Interfaces for optimized editorial processes

We focused in particular on the connection of external tools and systems in order to simplify the content creation and editing process enormously through automation. This way, the metadata for books - such as covers, descriptive texts, price, etc. - are retrieved via an interface to VLB (Verzeichnis Lieferbarer Bücher) and are used for the book pages and bestseller lists. In addition, an interface to Media Control imports information such as genre and chart placement in order to use it for the creation of bestseller lists.

Already established tools are integrated into the Drupal site with the relaunch without media breaks: A connection to the newsletter tool Maileon enables the editorial team to compile the desired articles for the newsletter in Drupal. Furthermore, job ads are automatically obtained from an existing portal and seamlessly inserted on the page.
